Psalm 66:5 (NLT)
Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles He performs for His people.
The Triune God whom I serve; God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit is indeed a miraculous God. Perhaps we serve the same God. I pray we do. We will never know all of His awesome miracles. They are too numerous to count (Job 9:10, Ps. 40:5). Even if we limited God’s miracles to only our lives, we could not possibly recall all He has done for us. Our brains are not capable of such memory. Only God Himself knows the miracles we never realized we received from Him; encounters never stored in our memory as “miracles” simply because we had no idea they existed.
So, it is good that we live moment by moment and day by day, never looking too far ahead, so we may witness the miracles of God in our lives and praise Him for them (1 Chr. 16:8, 1 Thess. 5:18, Heb. 13:15). It is good to abide with Christ (John 15:4, 7). In doing so, we stand a better chance to experience all He has for us. We should walk with Jesus, not to receive miracles, but to be closer to God. When we are closer to God we live better lives. We are a stronger witness to the lost. Our families are healthier when we walk step by step with the Lord. Miracles received are byproducts of our abiding in Him.
My mission partners in South Asia always encourage me to share this term with prospective missionaries, “Come and see.” It is a short phrase that packs a punch. All of the stories shared by others and all of the numerous images of a distant mission field do not come close to actually being there. When you experience the culture of the mission field, break bread with others, worship together even though you do not understand one word that is being spoken, pray together, go shopping together, and many other numerous things, it changes you. Perhaps you will witness a miracle, but that’s not the purpose of the mission. The purpose is to share Jesus with others. In my experience, it is miraculous how much God changes me when I am on the mission field. I am always blessed more than I could be a blessing.
So it is with the fate of our eternal life. All of us who call ourselves “Christians” or “Believers” were in a place once when our goal was to “come and see.” We were seeking and God called us. It is our honor, privilege, and duty to extend this three-word term to others. Our job is to plant and water the seed. God will provide the increase (1 Cor. 3:6). The next time you encounter someone that does not know the Lord, perhaps you start the conversation by saying, “Come and see!” Curiosity will guide them to say, “Come and see what?” The door is now wide open for you to share Jesus, His miraculous resurrection, and the hope of salvation.
