Job 33:14-15 (NIV)
For God does speak—now one way, now another— though no one perceives it.  In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falls on people as they slumber in their beds.

Dreams, at a minimum, are interesting.  We can travel to distant lands in a dream.  We can be joyous in the midst of a dream; sometimes waking up from one in laughter.  In a dream we may be afraid, or when we wake up from one, even terrified, only to discover it was just a dream.  Some dreams are absolutely ridiculous as we find ourselves in settings and situations that we would never entertain in our waking state.  In some ways, dreams are like a movie; we are actors in this fantasy moment surrounded by a cast our mind has somehow created.

There are some that say we should not place much weight in a dream; that to look for a hidden meaning, or even a Divine purpose, is a waist of time.  While I appreciate that thought process, I do not agree with it as it pertains to all dreams.  Scripture supports multiple examples of Divine Intervention through dreams. I would encourage the reader to explore the following passages:
• Job 33:14-15
• Acts 2:17
• Num. 12:6
• Gen. 20:3

In the account of Jesus’ birth in Matthew, five dreams are recorded.  All were critical in sparing the life of the Child who would one day become the Savior of the world.  Any student of Scripture could not possibly deny that God spoke through these dreams to protect His Son and, in the long run, protect His salvation plan for all who believe in Jesus.  These dream passages can be found in:
• Matt. 1:20
• Matt. 2:12
• Matt. 2:13
• Matt. 2:19-20
• Matt. 2:22-23

If God spoke to Joseph and the Magi, can He speak to us?  Certainly, He can speak to anyone! Recently, I had a dream that I am certain is from the Lord.  It was a very encouraging dream.  It excites me to think that the Lord would reveal things to me through this form of communication! Who am I that He should visit me?  Yet, He did.  I continue to ponder this dream and joyfully await to see how it all unfolds.  For now, I will keep it close to the vest, ponder it as Mary pondered (Luke 2:19), share only when and with whom the Lord instructs me to, and humbly rejoice that God has taken the time to visit me while I slept.
