Job 37:6a (NKJV)
(Eliju said), “He says to the snow, “Fall on the earth.”
I have always loved snow. It is peaceful. It is beautiful. It makes people slow their busy lives down. It is captivating. It is fun (unless you’re shoveling it, I suppose). It produces creativity to film and songwriters. It is a God-send to kids as they are hopeful they will be off school the next day. As a former middle school teacher, I remember being more excited than my students!
In Job 38:22, God questioned Job and asked him if he had ever entered the storehouses of snow. Of course, neither Job, you, nor I have ever done so. Seeing snow machines at ski resorts cannot compare to God’s storehouse of snow. This is mystifying. How does God make snow? Certainly there is science linked to this but science would cease to exist without God Himself.
As I write, I can look out of any window in my home and see the marvelous beauty of God’s creation falling from the sky; not only for the earth’s sake, but also for our pleasure. We are so blessed to serve a God who loves us so much that He would say to the snow, “Fall on the earth.” He knows the joy it can bring to His people so He takes action simply because He can. As imitators of God (Eph. 5:1), may we take action to bring joy to others, to bring hope to others, to love one another, simply because we can.

Great word, Mike!
How appropriate this devotion is since Baltimore is actually calling for snow today and again on Monday the 6th. It is crazy peaceful! GOD IS GOOD!!
Snow days at our home meant baking cookies and sharing hot cocoa as neighborhood children came to sled down our hill. Many fond memories.
Amen
I had never thought about storehouses of snow before. That’s really cool!
It is a cool term in this context. Tomlin’s “Indescribable” has a line, “Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go, or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow.”
