Isaiah 43:18 (NKJV)
This is what the LORD says: “Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old.”
As we begin this new year, this is an encouraging and hopeful Word to embrace. Past defeats and sins enslave us to our past. It is not beneficial to dwell there. Instead, take a healthy and Godly approach and look forward.
This passage does not mean that we should never remember anything related to our past. There are benefits to recalling Godly lessons learned from previous experiences. It is good to remember what God has done for you and for others. He is a good God with an abundance of mercy and grace; always having your best interest in mind.
But as we remember the days of old and the goodness of God, rejoice that He “is doing a new thing!” (Is. 43:19). Take comfort in knowing that He who is seated on the throne says, “Behold, I make all things new” (Rev. 21:5).
Today is a new day! Today is a day of opportunity to do good unto others and to serve the Lord. Prayerfully, today will be a day you remember in the future as a day where God used you in a powerful way to fulfill His will in your life.
