Proverbs 19:8 (NIV)
He who gets wisdom loves his own soul; he who cherishes understanding prospers.
This world would be a better place if everyone not only pursued, but kept Godly wisdom and Godly understanding. Today that will not happen simply because well over 50% of the world’s population does not believe in God Almighty. Their trust is in some other god or their own atheist belief system that finds its roots in the idea that God does not exist. So, we live in the world that currently surrounds us, but it’s nice to dream of utopia.
When it comes to Christians, Godly wisdom and Godly understanding should be pursuits that drive us. All Christians should desire these two blessings from God. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge (Prov. 1:7), and with this knowledge comes understanding. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Prov. 9:10). The common link between the two is “the fear of the Lord”. If one who proclaims to be a Christian truly fears the Lord, Godly wisdom and Godly understanding will follow. Is it fair to say that if a Christian does not desire Godly wisdom or Godly understanding that they do not fear the Lord? I believe Scripture presents a strong argument to support this.
Seeking common ground is a skill many Christians have lost, and it’s important to recognize this. If recognized, it stands a chance to make a powerful comeback. If ignored, it only solidifies to those we should be witnessing to that we are self-centered and, in their eyes, distant from God.
Will we always agree? Absolutely not. From music tastes to choice of movies to watch, from politics to religion, from sports to food choices, there are always arguments. But let us never lose sight of what is greatest; the One who carries us into eternity; God, and the belief that Christ is Lord!
The Apostle Paul found common ground among the Athenians (Acts 17:22-24). Certainly, all Christians are capable of doing the same if we so desire. May we turn a page today for the sake of a greater society and for our own well-being. Seek Godly wisdom. Seek Godly understanding. Seek common ground. In doing so, we may be the impetus that makes this world a better place.

Wow!! Such truth in a desperate time we live in today! Praise God for this devotional !
I suppose the world has always lived in desperate times.
Throughout Scripture there is turmoil (Kings, Habakkuk, Acts…)
Things seem more pronounced when we’re in the thick of it.
If not for God, I have no idea where I’d be.
Great reminder.
Amen!
