Proverbs 2:7-8 (NKJV)
He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints.

These are great promises for those of us who love the Lord and are declared righteous by Him.  God not only stores snow and hail for His purposes (Job 38:22), but He stores up sound wisdom for the righteous.  Just as David said, “The Lord is my strength and my shield” (Ps. 28:7), He is also a shield to anyone whose walk is blameless.  Scripture supports that God guards the just as Isaiah wrote, “The God of Israel will be your rear guard” (Is. 52:12).  And certainly, God protects those who are faithful to Him (Ps. 32:7, Is. 54:17, 2 Thess. 3:3).

This passage from Proverbs 2:7-8 belongs to all who adhere to the opening four verses of this chapter.  As it relates to Godly wisdom, do you: receive her words, treasure her commands, diligently seek understanding, cry out for discernment, seek her as silver, and search for her as a hidden treasure?  If you do these things “you will understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God” (Prov. 2:5, NKJV).

Scripture warns the reader: “Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes” (Is. 5:21, NKJV).  What type of wisdom do you seek, worldly or Godly?  We cannot obtain our own Godly wisdom. This is something that only comes from the Lord, and “from His mouth come knowledge and understanding” (Prov. 2:6).

If we hold fast to the opening four verses of Proverbs 2, God will keep His end of the bargain.  He stores wisdom for you.  He is your shield.  He guards your path.  He is your protector.  May we encourage each other to walk in His ways, first because we genuinely desire to do so, and secondly, so we will obtain the wonderful promises He has waiting for us; those He has declared righteous.
