Proverbs 28:27 (NIV)
He who gives to the poor will lack nothing, but he who closes his eyes to them receives many curses.
I will assume that no one plans or desires to be cursed. Therefore, the emphasis of this devotional will be on giving to the poor. There are many ways this can be done. Physically, we may assist them with food, clothes, and shelter. Spiritually, we may share God’s Word with them or pray with/for them as many are poor in spirit. This includes those who live in million dollar mansions.
This is God’s promise to you – because of your generosity to the poor you will lack nothing. My wife and I were discussing this verse recently and we rejoice that we will never lack. We do not assist the poor and needy so the Lord will bless us; so we will never lack for anything. We do these things because we want to help others have better lives. As a result, the Lord provides to us the wonderful promise that we will lack nothing.
Many passages of Scripture support this theme and promise from the Lord. Listed below are a few passages for you to read and meditate on.
Deuteronomy 24:19 (NKJV)
When you reap your harvest in your field, and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be for the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.
Proverbs 19:17 (ESV)
Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will repay him for his deed.
Proverbs 22:9 (NASB)
One who is generous will be blessed, because he gives some of his food to the poor.
Luke 6:38 (NKJV)
(Jesus said), “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”
Be encouraged today as you give to the poor. May your heart rejoice that you are providing for someone in need. May you be encouraged that, because of your generosity and the promise of God’s Word, you will lack nothing.

I’ve always known we are to give to the poor–scripture is clear on that topic. And I’ve always given because I wanted to be obedient and because I knew others were able to go and do in places I’ve not been called to go. But the added promise that I will want for nothing hit me anew in this devotion. And I can attest, it’s true!
Thanks for your devotions, Mike. They’ve been a blessing.

Hi Sharon. It is one of those promises that can pass you by in the blink of an eye. But what a blessed promise it is. Thank you for sharing that you are living proof that God holds true to His promises. Hopefully your testimony will encourage others.
Great word, Mike! Thank you for once again presenting Biblical Truth in an American church culture immersed in heretical prosperity theology.
Heresy is indeed a dangerous path and does not honor the Lord.
